Dear Anglers and Friends:

The 2012 Lydia Ann Fly Masters tournament was another tremendous success, being our best results ever!  This year's tournament grew to a total of 82 anglers and raised over $8,000 for Casting For Recovery, nearly doubling the donations made in 2009 and 2010.  So far, through our tournament's third year running, we have hosted nearly 200 anglers.  Through the help of the participants and all of our generous sponsors, we have  been able to contribute net proceeds to Casting for Recovery's Texas Chapter in excess of $16,000!  That has far exceeded our original goal of $2,000 per year.

When we discussed the concept of this tournament "way back" in February of 2009, neither one of us could have imagined the excellent response we have received and the growing participation numbers that you have all helped us to achieve.  Our initial thoughts to put a tournament together quickly grew from just a fly fishing tournament to raise money for a charity, to “let’s start the biggest fly fishing tournament on the Texas Coast and raise money for a charity at the same time”.  After countless e-mails, phone calls, road trips and lots of work through all hours of the night those initial thoughts have become a reality.  Even with all of the tireless work that goes into putting this tournament together, we honestly look forward to getting each year going soon after the dust settles!

We felt from the beginning that the first tournament would be a success if we had close to 30 anglers and could donate $2,000 to Casting for Recovery’s Texas Chapter.  In all three years the tournament has run, we have been able to far exceed those initial goals, thanks to all of you and our wonderful sponsors.  There were 52 anglers for 2009, 65 for 2010 and 82 for 2012.  Our goal for this year is to hit the century mark, with 100 anglers, so help us spread the word and make this year the best ever!

The generosity of our sponsors speaks to the quality of fly fishermen on the whole. Companies, Guides, Lodges and individuals have been very eager to support the tournament and CFR’s cause.  We were extremely satisfied with the items we were able to offer for Raffle and Silent Auction, and we ask that each of you try hard to support all of the Sponsors that contribute to the tournament each year.

And as for Casting for Recovery…we couldn’t think of a better group to support with a tournament like this. And we’re looking forward to the 4th Annual Lydia Ann Fly Masters Tournament benefiting Casting for Recovery.  Mark your calendars for the 3rd weekend of July for this year’s event- JULY 20, 2013.  Help spread the word amongst the fly fishing world, and let’s hit 100 anglers this year.  Encourage your club members, spread the word in fly shops and blogs and bring your friends out!
