2014 RESULTS
Dear Friends and Fellow Anglers:
First, I would like to thank everyone for their participation and continued support of the Lydia Ann Fly Masters tournament and more importantly, Casting for Recovery. After being chased by a few storms the week before, we were blessed with a beautiful day of fishing and an overall great time.
Many of you noticed quite a few changes that were made to this year's tournament, from the change in date and venue to offering online registration. We introduced some new custom made prize tiles that were amazing, changed the t-shirt style and offered a sit down meal at the awards ceremony. The list could go on and on, but from the reception we got at the tournament, it seems that the changes were enjoyed and appreciated by many! As always, we would love to hear your feedback and suggestions so that we can continue to improve and grow the LAFM tournament.
Though this year's tournament went off without a hitch and was ultimately a success, we faced quite a few challenges in putting the pieces together. Thankfully, we had a great team in place to keep things moving, sacrificing their time in already overcommitted schedules to make sure we could continue to support the wonderful cause that is Casting for Recovery. Special thanks to our team of volunteers from the Alamo Fly Fishers, Stacy Lynn, Susan Gaetz, Cornelia Gates and the Staff at Casting for Recovery for everything they did to make this year's tournament a success. I would also like to personally thank Palmer Simpson for coming up with the initial idea to start this tournament way back in February of 2009 and for all of his hard work and sacrifice to help give the idea the wheels that have made it the success it is today!
This year marked two significant milestones for the tournament. First, this year's tournament was our 5th tournament. Since beginning in 2009, we have had a total of 325 participants fish in the tournament. Another milestone comes from the total donation the tournament has raised for CfR, with this year's total pushing us well past the $25,000 mark. Both of those figures were far beyond what Palmer and I could have imagined when we established the first Lydia Ann Fly Masters tournament. It is exciting to see the impact a group of dedicated fly fishers can make when supporting a very worthy cause! The estimated cost for one attendee at a CfR retreat is $1,000. Through this tournament, we have been able to donate enough funds to offset some of these costs for many participants in each of the CfR-Texas' two annual retreats. It is both humbling and gratifying to know that each of us has helped to provide even more women with the opportunity to attend one of these truly life changing retreats.
We should all be very proud of these milestones. None of them could have been reached without the continued support of all of our participants and through the generosity of the sponsors and individual donors who have supported our tournament each and every year. I would highly encourage each of you to look at the sponsor list from this and past years' tournaments (http://www.lydiaannflymasters.com/2014-sponsors.html). Next time you are in the market for fly fishing gear or goodies, I would encourage each of you to support each of these sponsors and let them know how much we appreciate their support of the LAFM tournament and CfR.
Now, what you have all been waiting for...the results! Even with the late start this year and compressed registration time, all of you helped us to reach a total of 60 registered anglers for this year's tournament and we were able to raise nearly $6,000 for CfR! Thanks to everyone for signing up and spreading the word!
We will be sure to get the word out as soon as next year's date has been set, but plan for it to be in mid to late September again. Keep an eye on our website (www.lydiaannflymasters.com) or join/follow our Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/110508092316938/) so you will know as soon as things are set. You can also find some photos from this year's tournament posted on our Facebook page.
Again, a sincere thank you to everyone who supported the Lydia Ann Fly Masters tournament and Casting for Recovery. Please help spread the word about the tournament and CfR. We look forward to seeing all of you (and some of your friends) next year.
All the Best,
Rob Burlingame & Stacy Lynn
